These dangerous ruins were once the tower and surrounding village of a mighty wizard. No one truly knows exactly what happened here to cause it to fall into such chaos. Adventurers who have risked the perils of the ruins and those who are old enough to remember rumors of the event have some clues. They say that powerful magics wrought by the Master of the Tower went awry when the forces of the Ruler of Ruin attacked Caernaeth. The results were as violent as they were chaotic.
Ever since then, Caernaeth has been a dangerous but rewarding place to set foot. Potent magical energies course throughout the area seemingly without pattern. These unpredictable energies will sometimes enchant objects left in the ruins, and sometimes will even cause such objects to appear spontaneously. These items could be anything from magical ropes to blades made of flame to artifacts themselves; popular rumor holds that a daring necromancer left Caernaeth with the Hand of Vecna within the last decade.
Of course, these rewards are not without risk. The same energies which enchant objects also present hazards through the ruins. Adventurers returning from the ruins tell of places where the air catches fire, where their comrades fell up into the sky never to be seen again, and where the walls themselves came forth to attack intruders.
